Journalism – Connecting the World – Letter from the Editor

About this issue

Excitement, laughter, and friends to share the moment with—did you have everything you needed to step into Year 2015? Let’s add to your joy by presenting you the biggest Voice K issue of all time – Issue 9. This fall and winter, we visited more than 20 events and had the opportunity to interview scientists working on cool projects, actors from musical productions, working journalists, fashion consultants and many more fascinating people. Our journalists also visited many places on their own, going from Eastern Canada to Las Vegas in the US, from local farms to exciting circuses.

We love it when kids learn new things—especially when they learn about business. There is an article explaining different business models. In this Introduction to Business article, you will learn different forms of business, such as sole proprietorship, partnership and corporation. You will also learn the difference among the service, merchandising and manufacturing industry.

We have several veteran journalists leaving us this year, but we also have gained a lot of new talent. This issue could not have been done without many dedicated journalists working together.

Looking into the future

New York City is one of the world’s most populous cities and metropolitan areas. It is the centre of cultural and art exchange. It is a city of dreams and freedom. I have had the opportunity to frequently visit and really get to know New York City for the past couple years. There is so much to explore there, not to mention the vibrant art scene and fast-paced lifestyle. It is a city that slowly grows on you. This summer, a group of Voice K journalists is going to New York City to gather inspiration to create a special edition of the magazine. For me, there is nothing more exciting than a group trip with my favourite people.

My goal for 2015 is to live in the present and to enjoy every moment of my life. I heard this quote in Kung Fu Panda the other day and could not resist sharing it here:

“Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That’s why we call it The Present.” – Eleanor Roosevelt
