When people think of Canada, they think of maple syrup. When people think of The Bruce Peninsula, they think of having fun! This summer vacation, my friends and I went to experience the lands of The Bruce Peninsula!
FROM THE START
It was a beautiful morning on July 10, 2015, and I was on bed, sleeping so well until my mom woke me, ruining my sleep—until I remembered I was going to The Bruce Peninsula! I dashed out of bed, got my suitcase, ate breakfast and went back to my bed, tired. A few minutes later, the doorbell rang. My mom opened the door and simply said: “They are here!” I ran out my bedroom and found my friends in a car, waving at me. It took us about an hour to get to our first stop, McDonald’s. We had to go to several shops for washroom breaks and food. When it seemed like we had almost died, we finally arrived.
DAY 1 BEGINS
We parked in a parking lot, where we also ate lunch. Then, we walked a trail that was 1km long. My legs were dead since my parents weren’t there yet, and I had to hold almost every single thing. Later, we finally reached our destination, Cyprus Lake. The water was cold, but when you looked at the water, it went from aqua, to dark blue. My friend, Rachel, and I would always jump in the water even though it was freezing. After, we went to climb a grotto. It was a very small place and it was very claustrophobic for me. But when you see the whole grotto, it looks really nice. After exploring a few times, we left and went to our cabin. It was pretty small, but it felt like a small house. We also went to the candy store. There were many candies like chocolate frogs, jelly slugs, Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans. These attracted me the most in that store! I ended up buying them and some powder sticks. After, we made a campfire, roasted marshmallows and sausages. Then, we went straight to sleep.
DAY 2
The next day, we all met up at the candy store. We all bought something to eat. I bought a Harry Potter-themed chocolate frog, and my friends got powder sticks. Some of my friends went to see Flowerpot
Island, so the rest of us went shopping. We bought a few books, and when they came back, we went to my friends’ campsite they had booked. We ate lunch and also petted kittens. These kittens were born a few months ago, and they were very light, furry and cute! They also liked to run away.
After, we went to a beach called Singing Sands. The water was warm and nice, but also dirty and shallow. We played spud, monkey in the middle, and tackled each other for the ball. After a while of playing, we left the beach. My friend and I made a movie trailer with iPad called “The Chocolate Quest” and we discovered new places. After, we went back to our cabin and went to sleep.
DAY 3
We all started packing. It was very boring until my friends picked us up at our cabin site and took us to Black Creek. It took us about an hour to get there. When we arrived, we started swimming. The water wasn’t very hot or cold, but it was very deep. There was a dock and we would always jump from there. We played spud and ate lunch there too. We swam and swam until we got tired. We also made a little river with the sand. After that, we it was time to go home.
WRAP IT ALL UP
We all started leaving. My friends and I ate ice cream, and also watched Oz the Great and Powerful.
When we stopped, we were at the same McDonald’s we went to in the beginning. I went in my car and drove home with experiences that I have never had before, and dreamed about going again. This was a fabulous trip for me, and I hope this article has showed you my experiences with The Bruce Peninsula and how you can enjoy it too!
