HarbourKIDS Skating Festival
By Edward Wang
Have you been to an outdoor skating rink before? If not, try Harbourfront’s outdoor skating rink. On Sunday, February 15, Voice K visited the HarbourKIDS skating festival. There were so many cool and exciting activities including arts and crafts, Lego, and ToyBox.When I first got there, I was eager to try the skating rink. We had a hard time finding it, but eventually we found it behind the West Jet stage. The ice was not as smooth as the rink at Huron Park Community Centre where I usually skate. My brother fell many times.
After, we joined my fellow journalist, Bill, in the arts and crafts room. Bill was busy playing with a giant, blue, foam stick. The staff at the arts and crafts table told us to draw something that makes you warm. I simply drew a sun to make my brother jealous. I thought it would work. But of course, I was wrong.
“It’s nice to see artists using small resources and using snow as the medium of art to help children express themselves,” said Allison Cummings artistic associate.
Cummings showed interest in art since she was little. She told us that her mother inspired her by taking her into ballet.
Cummings told us that they had a bigger turnout last year because of better weather conditions. For one, it wasn’t minus one million degrees every day last winter. The Harbourfront has a lot of events every year. We have been to many of the events.
