How to Stand Out – Letter from the Editor

Written by

Standing out requires more effort than ever.

I recently read an article from Harvard Business Review about how today’s youth are more entrepreneurial than their parents. The world is changing and all those traditional kids’ jobs such as delivering newspapers or being supermarket cashiers no longer apply nowadays.

In a world where 12-year-olds are making phone apps and 17-year-olds are becoming billionaires, it is harder to stand out. In order to be remarkable, kids today are required to think more innovatively and gather capital faster than their parents. This means being fully adapted to ever-changing technologies and constantly practicing problem-solving. Building a “fan base” is also quite important on the road to success.

With the fast-changing technology, creating something is becoming easier every day.  This is why I have added website-building and film-making to our summer camp program.

Video is a powerful communication tool. I recently trained all my young journalists to take their own videos and publish them online. Knowing that they can do something visual easily is powerful. I wish for all my journalists to use their creativity and build a strong portfolio and an everlasting network.

In this issue, our journalists had the opportunity to visit many places that are restricted to media only. We are extremely glad to be able to visit the backstage of Cavalia’s Odysseo Horse Show. We can’t believe our special chance to have a one-on-one interview with famous Canadian astronaut, Col. Chris Hadfield.

I look forward to our New York Trip in the upcoming weeks and hope everyone enjoys a nice summer.

To celebrate Voice K’s 10th issue, let’s end with our journalist Sunni Zhou’s poem about Voice K:
